It is not only the anti-globalist and other leftist movements who defend the web-piracy. Last week saw a very rare event, as Facebook, Google, AOL, LinkedIn, EBay, Mozilla, and Yahoo! sent a protest note to the U.S. Senate.
Well, to be honest, the tech giants are protesting not against fighting the web-piracy in general, but rather against the upcoming «Stop Online Piracy Act» (SOPA). According to this document, the web-pages, containing illegal contents, should be immediately deleted. Other than that, SOPA oblige the Internet providers to actively monitor the web-content they give access to, otherwise they will be fined. The big companies expressed their concerns with this point, since it may lead to something closely resembling web-censorship and would cost these companies an enormous amount of money.
