Mozilla is planning to blow out an OS for mobile devices which will use the Firefox brand. It is said to be based on HTML5 and to be fully open. The first phones with this Firefox OS are to come to life in 2013 in Brazil.
Mozilla got the support and backing from the leading operators (Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and Telenor), which are to be freer in abilities with the open HTML5 OS. The roots of Firefox OS lie in Mozilla's “Boot to Gecko project”. This is said to take off various limitations of web development on mobile. The low-end smartphone price range will be possible to include, helping to drive adoption across developing markets.
In all the new OS from Mozilla sounds interesting. I'd like to test the result myself, but unfortunately I'm not a Brazilian and can only wait for reviews. If you are interested you can find more information in Mozilla's official blog.
