The time when mobile phones or other devices will be bending are coming closer with each new invention. There has been an announcement of creation of a stretchable lithium-ion battery.
The device is really interesting to look at (wish it was possible to hold it in hands and have a closer look). Its functionality is interesting: the creators, John A. Rogers of the University of Illinois and Yonggang Huang of Northwestern University, declare that it is possible to stretch it up to 300% preserving its functionality.
All metal elements are covered with silicone, which is naturally flexible. The wires are bended in their form which makes the stretching action possible without applying damage.
Still there exist several troubles yet to be solved. For example, the battery as it is at the moment looses about 20% of its capacity after 20 charges and lives up to 9 hours.
Just imagine, what may be created using this technology? If you have any ideas upon this, please share them.
