Do You Want to Fly a Dragonfly?

A Dragonfly to Fly

Remember your childhood, did you like toys? Of course, you did! And don't even try to dissuade me from this belief. There is always a child within us, open to new meetings and ideas. Only one thing changed – the type of toys.

So, let me introduce you a mechanism, which may take and hold your attention for a while, bringing back the long-lost memories of flying a kite. Meet a dragonfly, made by human hands: BionicOpter.

Side View

Just imagine: the wingspan is about 63 cm wide, from tip to tail it measures 44 cm long and weights only 175 grams. Its wings have a carbon fiber frame with polyester membrane over them. (It is noteworthy, that these can be twisted 90 degrees from horizontal.)

With Tiny Detail

It is said to have high maneuverability, not requiring forward tilts for smooth transition from hovering to forward flight. Frankly speaking, I was fascinated by this invention.

Mind, that this is not the first project of Festo, they've already created a mechanic bird, a seagull.

Unfortunately this is to remain packed in mystery, at least for a while. :)

Oh, it looks really nice! This might became a good toy for fans of remote control helicopters and planes!
